Family of "Deacon" John WHITMAN (1) & Mary / "Mercy" FOSTER

2. Dorcas WHITMAN.[1] Born on 5 May 1749 in Massachusetts.

Dorcas had six children with Ebebezer Perry, and lost all but one of them in a fire. She then married Samuel McIntyre and seven more children.
In 1821, she was in Ontario. She had thirteen children by McIntyre. I have the names of seven of them in my files at this time.[2]

Dorcas first married Ebenezer PERRY[1]. Ebenezer died on 16 Aug 1777 in Brattleboro, Windham, VT.

They had one child:

SIX CHILDREN[4]. Five of these children were lost in a fire.

Dorcas second married Samuel McINTYRE[1].

They had the following children:

		i.	James[1]. Born in 1779 in Digby, NS. James married Nancy McDORMAND[4].

		iv.	Hannah. Born in 1780 in Digby, NS.[5],[2] Hannah married Obadiah GRIFFIN[4].

		vi.	Esther[5]. Born in Elgin Co., ON. Esther married John PHILPOTT Jr.[4].

3. Daniel WHITMAN. Born on 5 Jun 1750 in Annapolis. Daniel died on 23 Apr 1840, he was 89.

He and his wife settled on a portion of the Whitman land grant at Rosette.

On 9 Feb 1778 when Daniel was 27, he married Sarah KENDALL, in Annapolis, NS.[2]

They had the following children:

4. Hannah WHITMAN. Born on 12 Aug 1751 in Massachusetts.

In 1772 when Hannah was 20, she married William Ellery TUFTS[1], son of Joshua TUFTS & Abigail ELLERY. Born in 1747.

They had the following children:

5. Edward WHITMAN. Born on 6 Aug 1752 in Stow, Worcester Co. Mass. Edward died in Annapolis, NS on 15 Jan 1822, he was 69. Buried in Clarence Cemetery #130, LDS film #1017204.

In 1775 when Edward was 22, he married Dorothy GATES, daughter of Capt. Oldham GATES & Mehitable TROWBRIDGE. Born on 28 Sep 1755. Dorothy died on 10 Feb 1829, she was 73. Buried in Clarence Cemetery #130.

6. John WHITMAN. Born on 25 Sep 1753 in Stow, Middlesex Co. Mass.

In 1784 when John was 30, he married Elizabeth RICE[4], daughter of Ebenezer RICE.

They had the following children:

7. Salome WHITMAN. Born on 29 Mar 1755 in Stow, Massachusetts. Salome died in Nictaux, Annapolis, NS on 5 Jun 1831, she was 76.[6]

It is told of Salome that after her marriage to Mjr. Nathaniel Parker, twenty people ate at her table every day: his children by his first wife, her children by Mjr. Cleveland, and the children belonging to Salome and Nathaniel.

In 1779 when Salome was 23, she first married Mjr. Nathaniel PARKER, son of William PARKER & Mary MAYNARD. Born on 14 Mar 1743 in Dorcester, Mass. Nathaniel died in Nictaux, Annapolis, NS on 31 Jul 1830, he was 87.

"Nathaniel arrived in Granville, Annapolis Co., NS about 1760. According to the local histories of Calnek, Wilson, and Eaton and in an article written by one of his descendants, the Rev. D. O. Parker [Berwick Register, 12 May, 1897], he served under Wolfe at the fall of Quebec. Perhaps it is more likely he served in a Massachusetts regiment as part of the colonial army. After his return to Shrewsbury, MA, his home town, he must have moved very quickly to Nova Scotia. His arrival may have been as late as 1765, but he was a Planter. He was a grantee in Annapolis Twp. 30 Oct 1765. From the first division of the Felch Plan he received Lot #74 and from the second division, Lot #10.
Eventually he became a Justice of the Peace, a Commissioner to get settlers, and a Commissioner of Roads; he played a part in the laying of the Liverpool-annapolis road (Calnek, page 278)
He and his second wife, Salome Whitman, travelled to the Gaspereau River on horseback, to be baptizedd 5 June 1779, and were received into the Horton Baptist Church. Previously, he had been baptized as an infant, in the Shrewsbury church, 20 March 1743. With this act he renounced Congregationalism.
Along with his various enterprises and activities, he found time to raise a family of 16; all lived to adulthood. His first wife, and mother to his first six children was Anna Hardy, daughter of Aaron Hardy and Hepzibah Bradish. Anna died in 1778, presumably shortly after the birth of Lucy.
In the Berwick Register, the Rev. D. O. Parker (one of over 40 ordained Baptist ministers sine Nathaniel) suggests the immigrant Parker was one of three, probably a reference to Thomas Parker of Mass. Bay Colony who arrived on the "Susan and Eileen" in 1634. This line traces back to Captain Joseph Parker and Margaret. This eveidence came to light with the publication of Joseph's line in "The Exxex Genealogist", May, 1997.
In the "Halifax Herald", August 19, 1958 there is a picture of the house he built in Nictaux, which was still in use by Rudolph Haase that year.

Nathaniel remarried Salome Whitman, and by April of 1780 had his first child, Henry Parker, with Salome.

Salome second married Mjr. Ezekiel CLEVELAND. Born abt 1751.

They had the following children:

		ii.	Ezekiel[7],[1]. Born abt 1774. Ezekiel died on 27 Oct 1832, he was 58. On 24 Nov 1796 when Ezekiel was 22, he first married Elizabeth WHEELOCK[1], daughter of Abel WHEELOCK & Sarah FOSTER, in Wilmot, Annapolis Co., NS. Born in 1775. Elizabeth died on 11 Jun 1858, she was 83. Ezekiel second married Elizabeth ______[7]. Born abt 1765. Elizabeth died on 11 Jun 1858, she was 93.

8. Jacob WHITMAN. Born on 14 Oct 1757 in probably Mass. Jacob died in Sep 1837, he was 79.

Annie came from Argyle, NS and the couple lived at Rosette.

Jacob married Anna/Annie SPINNEY, daughter of John SPINNEY (1733-8 Apr 1793) & Johanna/Joanna ROBERTS. Born on 15 Aug 1763 in Argyle,Yarmouth, NS.[8]

They had the following children:

9. Abraham WHITMAN. Born on 10 Sep 1761 in Annapolis Royal, NS. Abraham died in Canso, Nova Scotia on 14 Mar 1854, he was 92. Occupation: Shipbuilder.

Came to Canso to start a shipbuilding business; saw it was a better place to do a fishing business. There were five families in Canso when he arrived. He would go to Canso in the spring and go back to Chester in the winter months. Fearing the danger of the privateers of the time, he decided to move his family to Canso. He brought in a teacher for the children and settled there. His business built the town's economy and population to over 1600 individuals. He was the "Grand Sire" of the Whitman business in Canso.

In 1793 when Abraham was 31, he married Hannah WEBBER, in Chester, NS. Born on 19 Mar 1771 in Chester, NS. Hannah died in Canso, NS in May 1847, she was 76.

10. Mercy WHITMAN.[7] Born on 26 Mar 1763 in Stowe, MA. Mercy died in Milton, NS on 13 Feb 1828, she was 64.

On 27 Jun 1787 when Mercy was 24, she married Nelson FREEMAN[4], son of Simeon FREEMAN & Patience WOOD, in Liverpool, NS. Born on 11 Jun 1764 in Liverpool, NS. Nelson died in Milton, NS on 21 Mar 1819, he was 54.

They had the following children:
