Family of John (Deacon & Ens.) WHITMAN (3) & Ruth

5. Thomas WHITMAN. Born in 1629 in England. Thomas died in Bridgewater, Plymouth, Mass on 17 Nov 1712, he was 83.

Born in England; came to USA in 1641 with his mother; lived in Bridgewater, Mass. in 1662 Made freeman in 1653 at Boston. Sold his Weymouth farm in 1662 and moved to Bridgewater with his father-in-law Nicholas Byram (who probably came over with John Whitman from England) . The place he settled has since been called "Whitman's Neck", which was about 200 acres between the Sautucket and Matfield Rivers, coming to a point at their junction. He stayed there for 50 years. His first house, a log cabin, was burnt by the Indians. The second, also a log cabin, was only lived in a few years. The third was built in 1680 and was occupied for four generations. This home was the birthplace of 36 children.

On 22 Nov 1656 when Thomas was 27, he married Abigail BYRAM, daughter of Nicholas BYRAM & Martha SHAW.

6. John WHITMAN. Born in 1631-1634 in prob. England. John died in Weymouth, Norfolk Co., Mass on 1 Feb 1713, he was 82.

John first married Abigail HOLLIS.[4]

They had the following children:

On 19 Oct 1662 when John was 31, he second married Ruth REED, daughter of William REED & Avis, in Weymouth, Norfolk Co., Mass.

They had no children.

7. Sarah WHITMAN. Born in 1633 in Hingham, PLymouth, Mass. Sarah died on 11 Jun 1718, she was 85.

Sarah married Abraham JONES. Born in 1629 in Hingham, Plymouth, Mass. Abraham died on 25 Jan 1718, he was 89.

Residing at Hull, Abraham's father Thomas was the tailor of Hingham. Abraham and his wife died within months of each other.

8. Mary WHITMAN. Born abt 1634 in England. Mary died in Weymouth, Norfolk Co., Mass on 10 Jul 1716, she was 82.

Married in a triple wedding with her brother Thomas, and Elizabeth, a sister of John Pratt[4]

On 22 Nov 1656 when Mary was 22, she married John PRATT, son of Matthew PRATT & Elizabeth, in Weymouth, Norfolk Co., Mass. Born bef 24 Aug 1634 in Aston Clinton, Buckinghamshire, England. John died in Weymouth, Norfolk Co., Mass on 3 Oct 1716, he was 82. Occupation: Cooper.

They had no children.

9. Rev. Zechariah WHITMAN.[4] Born in 1644 in Weymouth, Norfolk Co., Mass. Zechariah died in Hull, Mass. on 5 Nov 1726, he was 82. Occupation: Preacher, church elder. Education: graduated Harvard in 1668.

Was the first minister of Point Alderton, Nantasket or Hull.

On 26 Oct 1670 when Zechariah was 26, he married Sarah ALCOCK, daughter of Dr. John ALCOCK & Sarah PALGRAVE.[4] Born on 26 May 1650 in Roxbury, Mass. Sarah died in Hull, Mass. on 3 Apr 1715, she was 64.

It is through Sarah Alcock that the Whitman lines are descended from the kings of England. Farnam states that Sarah was a twin with her sister Anna. She was known as a "good penman" and wrote most of the legal papers and wills for the town of Hull.

10. Abiah WHITMAN. Born in 1646 in Weymouth, Norfolk Co., Mass.[5] Abiah died on 28 Jan 1727-28, he was 81.

Resided with his father and inherited the homestead.[4]

Abiah married Mary FORD, daughter of Andrew FORD & Eleanor LOVELL. Born in Weymouth, Norfolk Co., Mass. Mary died on 15 Mar 1715 in Weymouth, Norfolk Co., Mass.[5]

On 19 Sep 1660 when Hannah was 19, she married Capt. Stephen FRENCH[4], son of Stephen FRENCH & Mary. Stephen died on 13 Mar 1718 in Weymouth, Norfolk Co., Mass.

They had the following children:
