Family of Nicholas WHITMAN (16) & Mary CONANT

81. Mary WHITMAN.[4] Born in 1720.

82. William WHITMAN.[4] Born in 1722.

83. Josiah WHITMAN.[4] Born in 1724. Josiah died on 3 Apr 1754, he was 30.

He had his father's dwelling house and the southwesterly part of the homestead. He was extensively engaged in the manufacture of shoes. For some years before his death, he contemplated moving to Cornwall, CT and had purchased a farm there at which he would spend some time on occasion, preparing it for his family's residence. However, a pulmonary consumption terminated his career before he was thirty years old.

Josiah married Elizabeth SMITH[4], daughter of Ezekiel SMITH & Dinah MAY. Elizabeth died on 22 Jan 1778.

They had the following children:

84. Sarah WHITMAN.[4] Born in 1726. Sarah died on 26 Apr 1818, she was 92.

The only daughter of Nicholas who married

Sarah married Eleazar ALDEN[4]. Born in 1723. Eleazar died on 2 May 1803, he was 80.

They had the following children:

85. Abigail WHITMAN.[4] Born in 1728.

86. Nicholas WHITMAN.[4] Born in 1731.

He had a portion of his father's homestead upon which he spent most of his days. The muster rolls show that Nicholas Whitman served at the time of the alarm at Rhode Island, Dec. 8, 1776, under Lt. John Whitman. He led a quiet, inoffensive life and died 1803. All his children survived him.

In 1759 when Nicholas was 28, he married Mary HOUSE[4].

They had the following children:

87. Susanna WHITMAN.[4] Susanna died in 1734.

88. Ebenezer WHITMAN.[4] Born in 1731. Ebenezer died on 11 Feb 1786, he was 55.

A man of intelligence and virtue, amiable ale in disposition and much respected by his neighbors; the muster rolls show Ebenezer Whitman of Bridgewater marched to Horse Neck, Braintree, March 4, 1776; also was called out on occasion of the alarm at Bristol, RI, Dec. 8, 1776. He died of consumption, Feb 11, 1786.

Ebenezer married Abigail FREELOVE[4], daughter of John FREELOVE. Abigail died on 1 Mar 1786.
