| Notes for Solomon WHITMAN |
Settled on a portion of the homestead, he learned the trade of shoemaker but apparently never followed it.
Though not a college graduate, he was well educated and deeply interested in all literary matters; was appointed in early life a magistrate by the colonial government and was honored by the inhabitants of his native town with offices of every grade in their power to bestow.:
Justice of the Peace, 1751
Deputy to the General Assembly , 1751
First Judge appointed to the Probate Court of the Farmington District
Town Clerk (at age 92
He is said to have celebrated his 90th birthday by making a pair of shoes.
His death was said to have been caused by over-fatigue in settling a fence boundary dispute between two brothers.
He lived to be 93.
