He was a farmer at Rosette on the farm that was a part of the original land grant to John Whitman. He was also actively engaged in public affairs. In 1863 he was elected as a member of the Provincial Parliament for Annapolis County and served for four years. In 1881 he was appointed as a member of the Legislative Council of the Province.
