Sarah married William Laboyteaux in 1859 and Mary Elizabeth was born in 1861. In 1862, William joined the army to fight in the Civil War and was killed in Fair Oaks, VA in 1864. Sarah applied for a widow's pension in 1866 and received it until she married William Brumme in 1874. Brumme left her over an argument about Mary Elizabeth, because Sarah took Mary Elizabeth's side in the argument. A couple years later, Brumme came back to the town of Seneca Falls and tried to get Sarah to do some sewing for him, but she would not let him in. He gave a different name and looked different. Sarah moved in with Mary Elizabeth and her husband William Hall in 1880 in Pottsville, PA. In 1902, she applied to have her widow's pension reinstated, but had to divorce William Brumme to receive it. It was rumored Brumme was dead but never proved. Sarah received the divorce on the grounds of desertion, as she had not seen him in nearly 20 years at that time.

| William enlisted in the 148th Infantry Regiment of the NY Volunteers in 1862 at Seneca, NY and served in the Union Army under Captain Gage. He was killed in battle at Fair Oaks, VA. |
