Clara Whitman Lane
One photo is of Clara Louise WHITMAN(Lane) with her granddaughter, Helen Beatrice LANE(Hendricks), approx. one month after her birth, June 14, 1924. The other photo is of Clara Louise WHITMAN(Lane) with Helen Beatrice LANE(Hendricks) in approx. 1926. Both photos were taken outside Clara's home in Shawnee, Pottawatomie Co.,Oklahoma. Clara was blind and lived on her own. She had traveled to the Mayo Clinic at one time to see if they had any treatment for her. Her son, William Wade LANE, also developed blindness. Several of the ggrandchildren are legally blind. They have been diagnosed as having Retinitis Pigmatosa, a genetic disorder that causes gradual blindness in various degrees.
