Freeman Tupper Whitman

Shelley Cardiel sent this to me:
I've "rescued" an old photograph of F. T. WHITMAN which was taken at the Jones Studio in Providence, Rhode Island. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1870's with the man in the photograph likely in his 20's or 30's at the time it was taken. The photograph was recovered along with others belonging to the Class of 1878 from Brown University including both faculty and students.

With this knowledge I was able to locate information regarding Freeman Tupper WHITMAN who was a member of the Class of 1878 at Brown University and have gathered the following information about him:
Freeman Tupper WHITMAN was the son of Nathan Tupper WHITMAN (b. 5 Dec 1815 in Liverpool, Queens, Nova Scotia) and Matilda G. FREEMAN (b. 5 Sept 1821 in Milton, Queens, Nova Scotia). He was one of five children born to this couple including, Charlotte; Alfred; Freeman Tupper; and Frederick Augustus; and Adolphus Freeman WHITMAN, all born between 1844 and 1853 in Milton, Queens, Nova Scotia.

Freeman's father married a second time in 1862 to Matilda COOMBS and with her had a daughter, Matilda Blanche WHITMAN b. 1863 in Milton, Queens, Nova Scotia.

Freeman married more than once, first to Harriet "Hattie" CHURCH (b. Charlestown, RI d. 22 May 1886 in Westerly, RI) in Westerly, RI on 5 Oct 1882, and second to Bessie B. Chapman MAIN (b. 30 Jun 1866 in North Stonington, CT) with whom he had a daughter, Elizabeth Wave WHITMAN. Freeman died in Pawtucket, RI on 28 Feb 1915.

Census records provide the following information:
1900 census of Framingham, MA:
