| Notes for Capt. David WHITMAN |
| Lost at sea in the Great Hurricane of 1873 with all hands. He had set out that afternoon on the "Ada", (named after his daughter) without knowing the wicked storm was about to hit. That night, the great storm came, destroying the town of Canso. Buildings were torn from their foundations, and woodpiles were tossed to the wind. Barn doors were blown away. A ship blew out of the water and was beached in the town. Some believe the storm was a hurricane that had tornadoes. After his death, Capt. David's wife remarried. |
